kitty genius / ashley g.
another etsy favorite is the talented ashley g. out of st louis. regarding her work she says that the characters i create, whether monsters or little girls, are simple, humorous, empathetic, and a little bit pathetic. she sells all of her prints for $20 and occasionally puts original art into her shop. i really dig it all and think it's work bookmarking under ART! featured in this post are a print entitled li'l' bandits {above} and an original painting entitled us, {below}. i have li'l' bandits myself and the bright yellow and black are just fantastic in person. see ashley g.'s entire selection right here.

hable construction
i was excited to see recently that hable construction was now offering stretched canvases of their fantastic fabrics as a web exclusive. they offer 3 sizes: 10 x 10" = $45 / 10 x 20" = $85 / 30 x 30" = $105. i think the largest size is such a great deal if you have $100 and a space where you need something bold but can't quite commit to artwork. check out their fabric choices online here.
pushmepullyou
pushmepullyou is a wonderful design studio run by eleanor grosch out of philadelphia. i really dig the simplicity of the designs she offers as art prints, all sold in limited edition for $20, and especially my favorites the giraffe, doves & owl prints {featured in this post}. you should also take a look at her rock posters {michelle malone poster featured below}, all selling for $20 each, right here.
drinkabutter
etsy is such a great place to find handmade goods. i stumbled upon the drinkabutter shop and was charmed by these small original oil paintings done in a sort of striped down modern folk style. they are each one-of-a-kind, painted on canvas board and signed on the back. my favorites were ginko leaf {8 x 10" / $35} and maple key {8 x 10" / $60} as featured in this post. check them all out right here.
my little underground
christopher david ryan, a graphic artist out of brooklyn, has just opened a new online shop, my little underground, where he sells his gorgeous designs as prints ... i think i am going to have to take a moment to gush over this ... it really makes my heart beat!
leafy mysteries {pictured above} is a series of 15 designs and the biggest question i have is ... which ones will you choose? i can see hanging at least 3 in a row over a couch or a bed OR maybe using 7 to 9 and hanging them along a long hallway. i can also see a few of them in a grouping with some natural elements around like pressed leaves or bowls of rocks. either way they are seriously stunning and the colors ... love! leafy mysteries, inspired by paul weller's song of the same name, are 11 x 17" digital prints on matte paper and cost $20 each. check them out right here. a simple observation of the harmony between the Earth and the sea of stars in which it floats. CDR also offers his dreamy harmonies prints {no. 7 pictured above}, 7 different designs in all, in 12 x 12" digital prints on matte paper for $15 each. i was thinking 4 or 6 would be great framed as squares making up a square on the wall and hanging above your turntables. or for just over $100 you can take all 7 designs now and keep them tucked away for holiday gift-giving. take a closer look at the harmonies prints here. a Brooklyn brownstone stripped down to a single feature and then repeated, creating it's own rhythm... becoming something to look at rather than just look through. the largest pieces that CDR offers are his windows prints no. 1 & no. 2 {pictured above}. these two beautiful designs are printed on matte paper and are sized at 18 x 24". i can see centering windows no. 1 and flanking it on either side with windows no. 2 {as i did in this post}. what a statement and what truly unique art! you can check out these, and even more of his charming work, at my little underground. enjoy!
penelope dullaghan poster
i started my crush on penelope dullaghan's beautiful illustration work a few years ago now. i always enjoy her prints and currently she has one to offer in her shop. the birds on a wire poster is an 11 x 17" signed digital print for $35 {includes shipping}. i think the subtle blue and black combo would warm up any room. check it out right here.
cricket press art prints
Cricket Press is a tiny little operation geared towards designing and hand printing silk-screened posters for music events, art shows, propaganda, and basically anything you'd want to make a poster for. We especially love doing gig posters for punk, indie-rock, jazz and improvised music events. Reason being, this is just the music we love, and the people we love to work with.i really like how cricket press describes themselves {quoted above} on their website; simple & honest. and digging into their site, this heart girl print, by sara turner {one half of cricket press} really caught my eye. the silkscreened heart girl art print is 14 x 23" and costs $25. but that is not all they have to offer ... check out all of their art prints right here and all of their posters here.
boygirlparty
i think i could build an entire kids room around this charming susie ghahremani tugboat print. the print is on eggshell-finished archival paper and measures 7-1/2 x 5" {cost = $25}. boygirlparty is the website that houses the work of ghahremani and she has many sweet items in her shop. i also like the idea of tacking up or framing her witty postcard sets or brightly designed cards.
the decoder ring
hi all. happy monday! more silkscreened poster love today ... check out the decoder ring's selection of really nice posters for sale right here. out of austin, the decoder ring has done work for bands like modest mouse, wilco and spoon {prints featured in this post are linked by clicking on the band name}. enjoy their posters shop {most posters: $25} online by clicking here.

how i found paul paper
i want to encourage you regarding something: if you find an artist online and their work speaks to you but their website doesn't show prints for sale, just email them! i can tell you from my experiences that you can find a lot of unique and exciting art this way. i also find that the pricing is usually in my range as well which might be a fluke but still. my example is that a few months ago i fell completely in love with the photography of paul paper out of Lithuania {who goes by the flickr name of and some other}. i emailed him and got a few prints, to start, and i just couldn't be happier with them. i'm planning to email him again soon for more! moral of the story: when it comes to art, it never hurts to ask. paul paper's photographs featured in this post are entitled legs {top} and that's why i'm lying here {bottom}.
jennifer causey
i dig simple things. if you feel the same, then i think you might really love jennifer causey's work. she sells her prints and photo cards {could easily also be framed} at her etsy boutique for very reasonable prices. a few of my favorites, as featured in this post, are coffee shop {5 x 7" print for $20} and vintage fans {5 x 7" print for $10}. check out simply photo right here.

nadine y. nakanishi
well, it looks like we are going to have a bird machine worshiping day today. also somewhat in cahoots with this great printshop is nadine y. nakanishi who offers a few of her silkscreened posters for sale right here. i just love her color palette ... so subtle.
diana sudyka
and since i'm making confessions ... you should also know that i'm a diana sudyka toady as well. as a co-conspirator of the bird machine, diana has created some absolutely gorgeous affordable silkscreened pieces, some of which i have featured in this post. to see her entire collection of screenprinted posters and prints click right here.
the bird machine
i have a confession ... i am huge jay ryan toady! i might just be the biggest one there is. i think the work coming out of the bird machine is my absolute favorite in the world of silkscreened posters. i have included some that i just love {and that are still available} in this post but to see jay's entire collection {priced very reasonably i might add} just click right here. oh and he also has a book out of his work which you can check out at punk planet books. it's fantastic!

take a look at these wonderful limited edition letterpress printed seashell prints from dear olive. the detail is just stunning and the neutral tones are so nice. the single price per print is $45 and these were made in an edition of 250. enjoy ...
YouWorkForThem
so i have had a crush on YouWorkForThem for ages. they offer a great selection of bits & bobs for designers, artists, anyone really ... total inspiration! i wanted to show you some of the pieces for your walls that they offer and that i think are quite unique and on sale! {scroll down for more} so not only do they offer posters themselves {great designs} but the signed proofs as well. check out the WeWorkForThem poster collection, shown above, here {3 posters for $19.99} and the artist proof {limited edition of 50, signed + stamped + numbered for $39.99} here. i also dig this little set, shown below, of 12 postcards {$3.99} ... and they offer the artist proof {limited edition of 50, signed + stamped + numbered for $39.99} as a very cool wall hanging as well. have fun checking them out right here!
i heart polaroids
i have a soft spot for polaroids. i take quite a few myself and have found many other kindered spirits along the way. i can remember some of the images that have inspired me like breaking by jimbus or beauty longer by ali or this entire set by maditi. well the very talented artist lisa solomon is offering her jolly polaroids {shown in this post} as dye sublimation prints right here. prices are $50 for a single, $75 for a diptych, $95 for a triptych and as a special for d*s readers lisa is offering 15% off if you email her directly to place your order. take a look at these fabulous bits of art close up right here.
new prints from binth
i am so pleased to show you two new prints from binth. they have four to offer, take a peek here, but the two featured in this post are new as of last night! these beautiful screen-printed art prints are matted, numbered and signed. they are printed in limited editions of 250 and cost $85 each. again i think these prints could be paired with some black and white photography and make a lovely vignette. featured in this post are akin {just below the post} and uprooted {detail above the post; entire piece at the bottom}, both illustrated by linnea gits.
the drama store
i wanted to give a quick shout out to the drama store out of richmond, virginia. i really dig their unique selection of goodies. some of my favorite art finds are Dustin Hostetler's grudges {a limited edition of 40} + Wyeth Hansen's One Hundred Thousand Fireflies {a limited edition of 10} + Carrie Runte's small but sweet silkscreed postcard Cradles and Cages. and i'm also very intrigued by the swedish magazine entitled Livraison. yes ... i am veering away again from my blogging topic but i think it really looks like a lovely little treasure! you all can enjoy checking out the drama store right here.
an idea
in my small stakes post i referred to clips + nails for hanging prints or posters ... this was what i was talking about. in my apartment some art is framed and other pieces are not. i like the mix + match look and since framing is so expensive ... this helps make it all happen.
jennie smith 2007 calendar
beauty + art + function ... check out this great calendar/poster from jennie smith and little otsu. this 24.25" by 18.25" poster is $11 {cheap!} and is printed in a limited edition of 1100 exclusive to little otsu. take a peek right here.
small stakes
the small stakes, out of california, has one of my favorite selections of handmade silkscreened posters. i always think it doesn't matter whether you like the band or not ... it matters if the design speaks to you. i have a Fugazi poster hanging in my apartment and have probably heard one song from this band. i just love the design. the small stakes sells their posters very cheaply so all you need are a few tacks {i use nails + clips myself} and you have yourself some really lovely wall-coverings. check out the small stakes selection online right here.
trip print press
okay so i'm partial to letterpress art ... that you should know about me right off the bat. well trip print press does amazing work and they have a few twenty-dollar posters for sale that i think would look fantastic up on the wall. my favorites are back2skool and notes from the underground. both can be purchased through the blue house. and unrelated to affordable art for the home, i also love these other items from trip print press ... snowsuit bookmarks + 1.5" misc. type button {letterpress printed buttons!! swoon!}.
nikki mcclure posters
how about a set of six posters for just $20? nikki mcclure has a very distinctive style and i just adore the simplicity of it. these six posters from buy olympia could be tacked up all together or spaced out throughout your home but either way they are all really lovely. and for the price you have enough left in your budget for framing if you so choose. if you are looking to pair these with other small items i would suggest using some black & white photographs that you might have from a trip or an event. one or two of these posters + a few black and whites would make a nice display. take a closer look at the poster set right here.
thumbtack press
thumbtack press is a fantastic stop if you are looking for artist prints with very reasonable prices. the prints on thumbtack are anywhere from $14.99 to $44.99 and are printed with archival inks on heavy white paper. and if you want, the print will arrive at your house already framed and ready to go up in that one special spot you have in mind. some of my favorites, shown in this post, are The Bear (Ursa Major) by Lilly Piri + Repose by Penelope Dullaghan + the absolutely stunning Presagio di Primavera by Gianluca Ciufoli. find your favorite online right here.
this just in ... polaroid sale!
an online friend of mine is selling a few original polaroids for $5 each!! if you liked the look of my wire + clips + polaroids you might want to take a peek. how can you beat that price for originals?? enjoy ... insurgent muse polaroid sale.
hello!
well hello out there. first & foremost, thanks to grace for the opportunity to blog for the design*sponge guest blog. lena's posts the last few weeks have been quite invigorating so i'll be hoping to keep up that momentum of sharing inspirations with you. on my blog, port2port, i journal with one of my best friends about design, art, life and photography {mainly our own as we post photos every day}. a few months ago we had a week where we talked about art in the home. when grace asked me to blog i thought immediately about that topic. so, in these next few weeks i'll be writing about different art sites and artists who have moved me ... oh and i will be focusing on affordability as well. i know the idea of what is affordable is different to everyone but in this case i am going to keep the art under $100 and more likely under $50. to me, art that you put in your home has to somehow grab you. it might be as simple as the art being something you don't mind seeing every day or maybe even that you would get something different from every time you have a moment to ponder it. or in lots of cases it just needs to look good in a certain space. i have included a few photographs from my apartment in this first post {artists will be featured later}. i tend to use my bits of art to create small vignettes. i like to use what i have on hand and pair it with art that i purchase or art that is given to me. i also like to do a lot of rotating so that i don't get bored. i am really looking forward to sharing a few weeks of ideas with you all. please keep in touch and feel free to email me at port2portpress@gmail.com.
grace's odd & ends
i really enjoyed these last two weeks on the design sponge guest blog! i want to thank grace, not only for the fun opportunity of kicking off the d*s guest blog, but for her amazing dedication to helping independent designers. thank you! to end my guest posting, i asked grace to send a photo of her apartment or workspace. So here's a peek into grace’s home.
OK! toodle-oo! (i'm back to posting on my own blog now) GRACE BONNEY
1. what is your occupation? freelance writer and kitty mom to turk and ms. jackson. the former takes up most of my time though.
2. explain the background/story behind three of the items in your photo. well, this is the one spot in the house where i can be as girly as i want to. it's also the only spot that isn't covered in paint swatches and fabric samples. let's see...there are two prints from hammerpress that i love (and really need get framed), fall shoes that i have yet to wear but love to look at. (i think i'm more of a shoe admirer than wearer) if i could surround myself in pretty, colorful heels i would, but 9 times out of ten i end up in flip flops when i leave the house. there's also a pamela barsky piggy bank which has finally gotten me to organize my loose change.
3. what are three of your favorite places for finding things for your home? the golden calf, williamsburg brooklyn. (they have a great collection of affordable little vases, glasses and odds and ends. i'm a big odds and ends person) rare device, park slope brooklyn (rena and i have very similar taste so i can always pick up a fun print or little vase if i need a new detail for the house) tinyshowcase.com and art star philly for affordable prints. i'm way into illustration these days so i like to gather up as many affordable prints and drawings as possible. then i frame and group them on picture ledges for little pops of color throughout the house.
4. what are three things on your wish list? a couch that will fit in our home AND be cute. has been tough to find so far. a great vintage danish modern buffet or console. i've been hunting like a mad woman lately for the perfect piece in the right color... patent leather mary janes with a 2 inch heel and slightly rounded toe. everything has been flat or super high and i'm looking for a pair i can actually walk in.
deck chair dreams
earlier in the summer, the royal parks foundation in london commissioned the design of fabric-slung deck chairs by some of my favorite designers: celia birtwell, eley kishimoto, julie verhoeven, paul smith, and many more (24 in total). the chairs were displayed in hyde park, and the signed original canvases were auctioned off for charity in june. reproductions of the chairs are available to purchase here. again, i love the idea of using something simple, like deck chair fabric (or tea towels), as blank canvases for designs.

spring yellows
i had a busy week because of this, and wasn't able to ogle over the spring 07 fashion show photos as much as i would have liked. but one thing i definitely noticed was the lack of bright colors, except for yellow, in so many of the shows. my favorite color! here's an ode to warm, buttery yellows...
raul's home
RAUL GUITERREZ
1. what is your occupation?media/design consultant and sometime photographer. (raul's photography is currently being exhibited at the nelson hancock gallery - check it out!)
2. explain the background/story behind three of the items in your photo.i collect retablos and ex-votos (mexican paintings of saints and miracles) which i always have hung with antlers. in my old house they were on a brown wall and my wife hated the room. "too explorers club," she would sigh. when we moved back to new york my wife chose a bright korean blue for the wall which changed everything. she even let me keep the antlers. 3. what are three of your favorite places for finding things for your home?e. buk, a dealer of the odd and unusual, 151 spring street, NY paula rubenstein ltd., 65 prince street, NY. i always find great eclectic pieces at paula rubenstein. she often has good vintage photography and always has top notch textiles. my favorite places for pure browsing pleasure are flea markets. the rose bowl flea market in pasadena and les puces de saint- in paris are the two best i've attended.
4. what are three things on your wish list? antique korean herb cabinet an original copy of man ray's book photographies 1920-1934 a collection of vintage volcano paintings
los osos
designers eric ludlum and laurence sarrazin, of los osos, have added a felted rug, blanket, and throw to their collection. these gorgeous textiles are all made in limited quantities. according to their site, los osos works to define natural principles of form and apply them to design. the primary source material and inspiration of their project are the natural regions of the united states' pacific northwest. check out los oso's other cool experimental design on their website.
inside sherise's home
SHERISE LEE1. what is your occupation?prints and graphics for apparel. sometimes stationery and card prints, too.
2. explain the background/story behind three of the items in your photo. the thomas campbell print is a gift from my husband, david. the ceramic piece is from a shop on shabazi street in the neve tzedek area of tel aviv, a quaint residential neighborhood with a mix of historical and modern architecture, artisan co-ops, cafes and shops. the wooden cupboard is from two jakes in williamsburg, brooklyn.
3. what are three of your favorite places for finding things for your home?artwork by friends: prints + plates from lena corwin (thanks!), a photograph by doug aitken, a painting by keith wood and a drawing by adeniji adeyemi nadiff bookshop in tokyo for rad art books the sunday market in the chiang mai, thailand for textiles, pottery, handicraft and jewelry 4. what are three things on your wish list?since i'm 9 months pregnant, i can't wait to have sushi! so, i would love a sushi breakfast at the tsukiji fish market in tokyo. a painting by gustav klimt, chris ofili or pablo picasso a mix and match of home goods by eley kishimoto (especially the "flash" print) and twinkle living
galbraith and paul upholstery
i wanted to show this great chair by designers galbraith and paul, even though i received it a little too late for my post on patterned upholstery fabric. i think it's a really good example of a more subtle, but still fun, upholstery choice. for me, it's a little too subtle-- i love bright colors! but sometimes it makes sense to go with a fabric that's understated. i love that all of the galbraith and paul fabrics are hand printed, and this is one of my favorite designs of theirs. plus, i would love to have a simply shaped and very comfortable chair like this. all my mid century vintage furniture is great to look at, but not so great to curl up with a book on.
still life with aloe vera
i fell in love with these illustrated tea towels by british company unity peg, when i saw them in elle decoration back in january 2005. furniture designer jane atfield and her artist husband robert shepherd started unity peg in 2001. i love the concept of their business: using something as simple as a tea towel as the canvas for their designs. i adore their still life series.

spring fabric
it's a few days into new york fashion week, and taking a look specifically at the textiles, the overall trend is soft, natural tones. the color palette is every shade of brown, taupe, off-white, and stone. very few spring-y florals, instead most of the prints are more abstract-- waves, zig-zags, leaves, and amoeba shapes (plus stripes and plaids). splashes of color include lots of yellow and pinks. i think this trend for natural fibers and colors is in line with the eco trend in home design.
stone drawings
sue lawty is an artist in residence at the victoria & albert museum in england, and has been collaborating on a significant new body of work with the their textiles collection. in addition to large woven pieces, lawty creates "stone drawings" -- natural stones on gesso, arranged in simple, beautiful patterns. she has a blog, called concealed, discovered, revealed, where she writes about her work and experiences at the v&a museum.

3. what are three of your favorite places for finding things for your home?oh well, the best place for me to find treasures is at yearly flea-markets in the swedish countryside during the summertime. myrorna (charity shop/ salvation army) malmoe- ystad vagen (sweden) emmaus björkå (charity shop) kirseberg, malmoe (sweden) columbia flower market has a tiny flea-market on a Sunday morning (london)
4. what are three things on your wish list?i guess this is not the space for wishing for eternal love, happiness and peace..? the soundtrack for the roy anderson movie 'en kärlekshistoria' ('a love story') from the 70's, which is a great and beautiful film. coffee or and tea cups to go with my stig lindberg crockery collection, 'blomma' from the 30's (i have never seen them!). a nice, big black chalk board for my studio, it seems fun to sketch ideas on.
jaime hayon
thanks ben loiz, for reminding me about jaime hayon, a spanish designer whose work includes lighting, ceramics, and furniture design. his AQ hayon collection of bath fixtures (made with manufacturer artquitect) won the elle decor international award, best bathroom 2005/06. i'm really inspired by (and envious of!) designers who work in a variety of materials. and i always love getting a peek into a designer's studio, like the photos above of hayon working on ceramics. more incredibly inspiring photos here. (it appears from his site, that the plate and pots/sculture above were made for an exhibit, and are not available to purchase)

jill bliss prints
i bought one of jill bliss's native herb posters for a friend's birthday earlier this year, and every time i visit the blissen site i think about ordering one for myself. each poster is a limited edition print, made with soy-based inks on recycled matte cardstock. it's hard to choose between the blue eyed grass, yerba buena mint, or yerba mansa design. makes me nostalgic for california! i can't wait to see jill's window display at rare device next month.
bold upholstery
i love, love, love patterned upholstery fabrics. here are some favorites-- above: chaise with josef frank fabric from svenskt tenn below: (top left) foot stool with josef frank fabric from svenskt tenn, (top right) my own chair with fabric by elizabeth eakins (bottom left & right), couch and chair from hable construction.

KELLY COOPER
1. what is your occupation?i'm an artist, freelance writer, and also a grants administrator in a arts funding organization.
2. explain the background/story behind three of the items in your photo. on the coffee table there is a wide vintage thai solid teak bowl that is soon to become a planter for a cactus, since its a bit damaged. i made the pillows on the chair and sofa. they are sewn from a vintage linen tablecloth (from the late 60's or early 70's) that i bought at angel thrift shop in chelsea last year. i am totally in love with the geometric pattern and the colors - a very deep warm brown and a perfect gray-green, trimmed in cream. the vintage mid-century chair with original black upholstery was bought from a guy on the street selling a bunch of old and new furniture near our apartment in brooklyn.
3. what are three of your favorite places for finding things for your home? darr on atlantic avenue in brooklyn, new york (actually atlantic avenue is pretty golden for me in general...i always have luck finding interesting things in the shops there)angel street thrift shop in manhattan ebay, of course

i love wooden blocks (stems from my montessori schooling)... and like the clive & sunshine dolls, i think these blocks from muji would look great on a mantle or coffee table. also available: new york, london, tokyo, and suburbia.
adrienne rogers
i heard adrienne rogers discussing her hand knit blankets and throws on wnyc recently, and looked up her website. she makes beautifully textured pieces, and i love the natural color palette. i've been on a hiatus from yarn projects during the summer, so seeing these makes me excited to start again. i usually do more free-form and experimental crocheting/knitting, but i would love to attempt a blanket project.

SARAH NEUBURGER
1. what is your occupation? artist + designer. i make art + everyday objects for sale online, almost exclusively, through my own shop, the small object. however, a portion of my work week is also spent with my 4 year old niece + nephew.
2. explain the background/story behind three of the items in your photo. the sewing desk was purchased a local antique mall for $20 which being deemed an "antique" mall was a great deal so i snatched it up. the lamp was from a thrift store that has since closed down. the red arms of a chair you see is an old metal desk chair that i have painted + reupholstered three times in the past five years. it's a favorite of my cat, chloe who also doesn't like to get her nails trimmed. (hence the frequent need to re-upholster this item.)
3. what are three of your favorite places for finding things for your home?old mill antique mall in columbia, SC at home in savannah, GA craft shows like the renegade craft fair in brooklyn + chicago, bust did a great show this past december in brooklyn at the warsaw called the bust craftacular, even smaller local craft shows like the mutation craft fair in savannah GA (which happens again in early October)

clive and sunshine
i love the handmade doll trend, including these delicate animals from clive and sunshine. i've seen them in person at cog & pearl, and they're so well made, and just beautiful. i don't have children, but i would love to have a few of these to put on my mantle or coffee table.
virginia johnson
textile designer virginia johnson is one of my favorites-- she's really been inspirational to me. i've been a fan since first seeing her line at erika tanov, and i love her use of prints, colors, and fabrics. like me, she's also an illustrator, and has a background in fashion. she recently added homewares to her collection, and when i was looking at her newly updated website, i followed a link to an audio interview with her from toronto life. i highly recommend listening to it! it has a great slideshow showing her design process and inspiration sources. i love her new scarf designs (shown above).

also in the latest world of interiors, a new rug design by harry richardson and clare page of committee. the design is call "door", and i like the subtle graphics and shapes. it will be available from the rug company. ohhh, the rug company... they have the most incredible rugs and room photographs. if i had to pick one favorite rug, it would probably be squiggle by vivienne westwood.
cloth house
the september issue of world of interiors had a story on the london fabric store cloth house. i have many dream jobs, and owning a fabric store like this is definitely one of them! the store is owned by jay harley, and his clients range from designers like dries van noten to art school students. this is his second store, and it's limited to natural fibers (cottons and linens) and includes printed fabrics from around the world. it looks incredible...
hello!
hi design*sponge readers! i'm excited to be contributing to the new guest blog. design*sponge was the first blog i started reading and is still the first one i check every morning, so i'm honored to be taking part in it.
i'll be focusing on textiles and pattern design, like i usually do with my own blog. i'll also be showing photos from the homes/workspaces of some of the creative people i know-- and asking them to answer a few questions about the things they use to decorate their spaces. additionally, i'm planning to cover the prints in the spring 07 new york fashion shows, which start this week. i think it's always interesting to look at which prints would translate well to home design.
to start, i'm going to show a photo from my own home, one of my favorite spots, and answer my own questions about my space.

welcome to the d*s guest blog!

i've always wanted to have a place on d*s where i could invite my favorite designers, writers and artists to share their thoughts. so i figured, why not start a guest blog where a rotating group of my favorite design personalities could share their unique voice and great design finds with a new audience? so, every 2 weeks you'll be introduced to a new guest blogger who'll share their voice with us here on d*s. we're kicking things off with lena corwin- one of my favorite brooklyn-based designers. i've always admired lena's personal style and fantastic finds at the lena corwin blog, so i'm thrilled to see what she'll post on the d*s guest blog for the next two weeks. stay tuned, we head north for a new guest blogger in two weeks. enjoy! [thanks to lena for agreeing to get us started on the guest blog!] [eventually this section will be redesigned to incorporate more personalized elements from each writer, but for now we'll test out the beta version and see how things go. a big thanks to unbeige for the kind words]
